Blogmas Day 9: Series I Want to Finish in 2020!

Blogmas Day 9: Series I Want to Finish in 2020!

I don’t know about you, but I really want to focus more on finishing books from a series in the new year. I have a terrible habit of starting a book, but never pick up its sequel, even if I’ve loved the book and plan to read the rest of the series. It just hardly ever happens. 2020 will be the year that I’m going to focus on that more, instead of picking up new releases (although I’ll probably still buy the ones that pique my interest. I just won’t be starting them straight away…

Here is a list of book series I want to finish in 2020 in random order 🙂

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I recently (read two days ago), started with Daughter of Smoke and Bone and even though I am not super far into the book (I am at chapter 9 at the moment of writing this), I already really love it!

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

It was Autumn 2016 when I discovered the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children series. After reading the first book, I was utterly hooked and couldn’t stop reading. I flew through the first 3 books in the series and couldn’t wait for the fourth instalment to be released. That happened in October 2018, and I’ve since then been waiting for The Conference of the Birds to be released on January 14th.

The Bill Hodges Trilogy by Stephen King

In 2019 I really discovered the joy of reading Stephen King. At the beginning of July, I was browsing through a bookstore while waiting for my flight to Amsterdam. I noticed a ‘new’ release of Stephen King (The Outsider) and was intrigued by its synopsis.

After finishing this one (and giving it 5 stars), I noticed that it was a spinoff from The Bill Hodges trilogy and I wanted to read those books as well. I’ve read the first one (Mr Mercedes), and I cannot wait to continue with Finders Keepers and End of Watch.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

2019 was also the year in which I discovered the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco. In August I was in London for a weekend and bought the hardcover edition of the first book. This was the best decision ever, and soon enough I ordered the other 3 books in the series as well. So far, I have read the first 2 books, and I need to finish this series in 2020.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

After reading An Ember in the Ashes, I knew I wanted to read the second book in the series. So far it hasn’t happened yet, but I will be reading A Torch Against the Night in the new year.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer is one of those books that is staying with you for a long time. I didn’t absolutely LOVE it, but I also didn’t hate the book at all. It did take me a while to get into the story, and for a long time, I wasn’t sure if I actually wanted to read the sequel as well. Lately, I’ve been thinking about Muse of Nightmares a lot, and I am going to read this one as well, just for the sake of closure.

Skin Books by Alice Broadway

“The past doesn’t have to define you Leora. Your mistakes don’t have to be forever. There’s redemption. There’s always redemption.”

After reading some of the quotes in Ink (and falling in love with the cover), I couldn’t wait to read this series. I already read the first book, and Spark and Scar will follow really soon!

What are some series you wish to finish in the new year? Are there any on this list you haven’t read yet? Let me know in the comments!
